The Howland Memorial Lecture Series was established in 1985 in celebration of the life and work of Benjamin C. Holwand Jr., UVA professor of landscape architecture (1975-1983), practicing landscape architect, and committed public servant. Each year, the department has invited an esteemed individual to participate in the lecture Series. From 2017 on, the lecture series has taken the format of a speaker(s) and panel, to incorporate a range of voices on the topics of equity and inclusion in landscape architecture and design.
